Cannot send email attachments of invoices, estimates, and other reports: "Cannot create file...Right click the folder...check permissions"

Cause:

This issue may occur when the Temporary Internet Files folder is stored on a server on which you do not have sufficient permissions.

Solution 1 (Quick Fix Workaround):

  1. Hold the Windows Key, then press “R” to bring up the Run dialog box.
  1. Type “Regedit“, then press “Enter“.
  1. Click “Edit” > “Find” and type “OutlookSecureTempFolder“.
  1. When regedit has found the entry, it will tell you where your Outlook temporary files are stored. It will look similar to on of the following:
  1. C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Content.Outlook\randomnumber\
  1. C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLKrandomnumber
  1. Bring up the File Explorer, then navigate to the location in the registry key.
  1. Delete all of the files in this folder.
  1. Restart Microsoft Outlook and you should be able to open your attachment.

Solution 2 (Permanent Fix - Requires re-boot):

If you are using Outlook 2003, follow these steps:

  1. Click My Computer, and then double-click drive C.
  1. On the File menu, click New, and then click Folder.
  1. Name the folder temp0.
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  1. Locate and then click the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security\

  1. In the right pane, double-click OutlookSecureTempFolder.
  1. In the Value Data field, type C:\temp0\ and then click OK.
  1. Exit Registry Editor.
  1. Restart the computer.
