The SQL Database Engine service shows up in the services list as having the "Automatic Startup" option, but the service does not start. It will start manually, just not automatically on-startup.

//First, confirm that the issue is caused by a "Timeout" of the SQL service after logging into Windows. Open the [[http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/open-event-viewer#1TC=windows-7|Windows Event Viewer]] and check they System Logs to see what occurred at the time of your last reboot. Proceed to the steps below if Windows has recorded an event ID of 7000 or 7009 for the Cyrious SQL Instance declaring a Timeout.//

1. Windows + R (or any other method) to get to the 'Run…' dialog.

2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control

3. In the right pane, locate the ServicesPipeTimeout entry.

  • Note: If the ServicesPipeTimeout entry does not exist, you must create it. To do this, follow these steps:
    • On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    • Type ServicesPipeTimeout, and then press ENTER.
    • Right-click ServicesPipeTimeout, and then click Modify.
    • Click Decimal, type 60000, and then click OK.
      • This value represents the time in milliseconds before a service times out.

4.Restart the computer.
