Control on the desktop and Control Cloud which is on the cloud are the same software, feature for feature. The only difference between the two is who is responsible for hosting the software.

Pros

  • It is accessible through the cloud.
  • It will run on a PC or Mac.
  • You don't need any hardware or licensing for the server.
  • You can access it from anywhere you have an Internet connection and a computer.
  • Cyrious handles the backup and IT for you.
  • Support is included in the price.
  • Updates are included and automatically applied.

Cons

  • You need an Internet connection, if it goes down so does access to the software.
  • Some people prefer to own everything rather than have a recurring monthly subscription to it.
  • Maybe you liked your IT professional and wanted to keep him around.
  • You won't have access to Microsoft Office Products from Cloud Control. This means:
    • Emailing through Control using the Outlook feature does not work.
    • Opening .msg Outlook files in Document Management does not work.
    • Opening files in Control Document Management using Excel, Word or PowerPoint does not work.
    • To open these files, you will need to copy the file from Document Management to your local PC.
  • Dragging and dropping files from Document Management to your local PC does not work. Copy and Paste does though.
  • Moving files to and from Document Management using a Mac computer is possible, but it's not as easy as with a PC (more info here).
